Just thought you might like to try this recipe that I've cooking for the last 35 years. Something I learnt from two blokes that I worked with. One thing about this recipe is that you can make it as hot or as mild as you want while cooking, and then make it hotter afterwards just by adding more chilli powder. It's called a "Chilli Bunny Chow" as opposed to the "Indian Bunny Chow" which uses a hot Mutton curry. Chilli Bunny Chow This recipe is for four people (hungry or not). You'll need : 5 ripe Tomatoes (about the size of tennis balls) 3 Onions (about the size of tennis balls) 3 Potatoes (about the size of tennis balls) 1 tsp crushed Garlic Salt for your personal taste Chilli powder to taste (for the heat - we use a Chilli powder called Peri-Peri, which is MUCH hotter than Cayenne Pepper, I'm not sure what your equivalent would be) 1 tin Baked Beans in tomatoe sauce (Heinz, I believe make it) 1 tin Spaghetti in tomatoe sauce (also Heinz) ± 2 pounds extra lean Ground Beef 1/2 pound Butter 2 loaves White Bread (not sliced) - my wife hates the Bread, she insists on using Rice. Preparation time : +/-20 min Cooking time : +/-30 min Preparation: [a] Place Tomatoes in boiling water - long enough so that they can be peeled, peel, remove the stalk end and dice, don't liquidize. [b] Peel the Potatoes and cut into playing Dice size. [c] Skin the Onions and dice (coarse or fine - your choice) [d] Cut the Bread loaves in half, turn the halves long ways and cut again in half, remove the inside and keep - that's your lid. Butter the inside of the crusts and the bottom of the lid. Cooking: [a] Place 1/4 pound of Butter in a large pot and melt. [b] Add the Onions and glaze. [c] Add the Chilli powder - cook for ± 5 min. [d] Break up the Beef and add to the Onions - brown. [e] Add the Tomatoes and Potatoes and half of the salt - cook until the Tomatoes have cooked away and the Potatoes are soft, about 25 min. [f] Add the tinned Spaghetti, the baked Beans, the rest of the salt and simmer for 5 min. Taste, if it's not hot enough add more Chilli powder and simmer a further 2 min. Take the quarter loaf and ladle the mixture into the hole you've made, place the bread lid back on top and VOILA - EAT AND ENJOY !!!!! P.S. If you are really hungry then substitute the quarter loaf for half a loaf - just apply the same principles as for the quarter.
